The far-left mayor of Minneapolis, Jacob Frey, used Memorial Dayto commemorate the life of the African American criminal George Floyd, and only posted a tribute to fallen American soldiers after Breitbart News requested comments from his office.
In the morning, Frey released an extensive statement on his social media that began as follows: "Today we remember George Floyd, who was murdered by a former Minneapolis police officer six years ago. That moment changed our city forever." He concluded the statement by asserting that "the weight of what happened is still present in our city six years later, and the responsibility to keep moving forward together is as well."
Frey's post coincided with Memorial Day, the holiday specifically intended to honor U.S. military personnel who died in service to the nation. Thus, the mayor chose to honor Floyd before the fallen heroes. This same attitude was adopted by the governor of Minnesota, Tim Walz, and the state attorney general, Keith Ellison, all of whom are members and key figures of the Democratic Party.
Abhorrent: the Democrats paid tribute to George Floyd on Memorial Day and relegated military heroes.
Floyd's death was due to multiple factors
Another Democratic activist who paid tribute to the deceased convict was the lieutenant governor of Minnesota, Peggy Flanagan, who expressed in two separate posts that "George Floyd should be alive today" and that "our hearts break for his family and community." In contrast, Flanagan limited herself to sharing a brief message for Memorial Day from her official lieutenant governor account.
Floyd died in police custody in Minneapolis on May 25, 2020, after a video showed then-officer Derek Chauvin restraining him with a knee on his neck while Floyd pleaded that he couldn't breathe. The next day, Frey announced the firing of four officers involved in the arrest and stated: "Being Black in America should not be a death sentence."
However, during Chauvin's trial, it was demonstrated that heart disease, a history of hypertension, and drugs in Floyd's system - especially fentanyl - played a significant role in his death, meaning that the police encounter was not the primary cause of his demise.
