The Democratic representative from Arizona, Yassamin Ansari, urged her party on Wednesday to suspend, from the first day they control the U.S. Congress, the development of advanced artificial intelligence, as well as to regulate the industry and completely ban superintelligent AI.
"The priority of the Democratic agenda from day one must be to halt the development of advanced AI, regulate this out-of-control industry, and ban superintelligent AI," the far-left representative wrote on her X account.
Ansari was elected to the House of Representatives in 2025 and represents Arizona's third district. While she lacks significant influence within the party or the caucus - as she does not yet hold leadership positions in committees or subcommittees - her position to ban superintelligent AI from day one is shared by the majority of her colleagues.
The far-left senator Bernie Sanders had called for a halt to the construction of data centers intended for this technology. Six months later, he pushed for a bill for the State to transfer 50% ownership of U.S. companies in the sector to the public and distribute a $1,000 dividend to every citizen. He also proposes imprisoning anyone who develops this type of technology for up to 20 years.
