The President of the United States, Donald Trump, expressed his strong support this Wednesday for Colombian presidential candidate Abelardo de la Espriella ahead of the second electoral round to be held next Sunday, June 21, in an intervention that has generated strong optimism due to the significant level of direct support from a foreign leader to a candidate in the midst of a campaign.

Through a post on his social media platform Truth Social, Trump described De la Espriella as a ''smart, strong, and tough'' leader, portrayed him as a politician committed to his country, and openly urged Colombians to vote for him in the elections that will determine the next president of Colombia.

The U.S. president also used the candidate's campaign nickname, ''The Tiger'', and asserted that he represents an alternative capable of driving economic growth, strengthening security, and improving the bilateral relationship between Bogotá and Washington.

''The Colombian presidential candidate, 'The Tiger', Abelardo de la Espriella, is a smart, strong, and tough leader who tirelessly fights for his great country and its people,'' Trump wrote in the message, where he also highlighted the candidate's professional and political background.

According to the U.S. president, a potential government of De la Espriella would succeed in areas considered priorities for both Colombia and the United States, including job creation, trade expansion, combating drug trafficking, reducing illegal immigration, and strengthening citizen security.

Donald Trump stated that the Colombian presidential election will have significant consequences for the future of the South American country and for the strategic relationship with Washington. In this context, he claimed that a victory for De la Espriella would allow for deeper cooperation between the two nations.

''If Abelardo wins, and due to his competence and love for his country, he will have all the support and strength of the United States behind him,'' noted the North American leader, in one of the most prominent phrases of his statement.

The post also included a critique of De la Espriella's rival in the second round, the leftist official candidate Iván Cepeda, whom Trump described as a representative of radical left. The U.S. president presented the election as a decision of great significance for the political and economic direction of Colombia.

Donald Trump's support is particularly relevant because it was not limited to a favorable reference or a diplomatic comment. On the contrary, the president explicitly called for votes for De la Espriella and directly linked the electoral outcome to the future of relations between the two countries.

Political analysts believe that the message could strengthen the campaign of the candidate from Defensores de la Patria among the more conservative sectors of the Colombian electorate, especially among those who value an agenda focused on security, economic growth, immigration control, and the fight against organized crime.

The statement also highlights the existing political affinity between the two leaders. Trump emphasized that De la Espriella has shown support for his positions and presented him as a leader aligned with similar priorities in economic and security matters.

In recent months, the Colombian candidate has promoted a campaign focused on strengthening state authority, promoting private investment, and toughening policies against criminal organizations, proposals that coincide with several of the issues defended by Trump in the United States.

With just days to go before the second round, the support from the U.S. president has placed the Colombian election at the center of international attention.

With Trump's call to vote for ''The Tiger'', the campaign enters its final hours with a new element of high political impact that could influence public debate and voter mobilization before heading to the polls next Sunday.
