The Vice President of the United States, JD Vance, accused European Union bureaucrats of interfering against the Hungarian Prime Minister, Viktor Orbán, in an attempt to overthrow Trump's ally in Budapest during the parliamentary elections to be held this week.
Vance held a press conference from the Hungarian capital a few days before voters go to the polls to choose the next parliament to elect the next prime minister. The vice president stated that he was not there to tell citizens who to vote for, but simply to show his support for Orbán, whom he described as the “rare exception” among Europe's leaders willing to defend Western and Christian civilization
.For defending such values, Orbán has faced the ire of the leadership of the European Union. Thus, Brussels has imposed extortive financial sanctions on Hungary for its internal policies, such as the restriction of LGBTQ+ content on children's television programs and the refusal to receive illegal immigrants seeking asylum.
Orbán's refusal to enter the war for Ukraine has also sparked Brussels's fury as the right-wing leader has spoken out in favor of a peace agreement instead of continuing with military funding for Kiev. The Prime Minister and his allies have also complained that their peace messages have been suppressed on Facebook in favor of his opponent, Péter Magyar
