The electoral law pushed by Trump is stalled in the Senate, and the White House blames leader John Thune

The White House spokesperson, Karoline Leavitt, confirmed on Thursday to reporters that Trump's patience is "running out" with the Republican majority leader in the Senate, John Thune, because he is not advancing the president's legislative agenda in Congress and is failing to pass the SAVE America Act.

During an event in Georgia last night, Trump pressured Thune to eliminate the "filibuster" in the Senate and unblock the law that requires citizenship to vote: "Everyone call John Thune in the Senate. He is the leader of the Republican Party. And tell him to get this done once and for all!"

At the same time, the president praised Republican leader Mike Johnson. "I have to say that Mike Johnson and the House of Representatives did a great job, but we are having a tough time in the Senate. What they are doing is not right," he stated. "Congress will pass it again. They have already passed it three times. They will pass it again. It seems like the Senate is that place where you send things when you want them to die.”

This morning at her press conference at the White House, Leavitt reaffirmed the president's remarks regarding Thune's inaction. "The president spoke directly about this yesterday. His patience is running out. He wants to see as much of the SAVE America law passed as possible before the August recess," the Trump official noted.

"He was on tour yesterday, talked about this, and there was total applause from the people in the audience, from everyday Americans, because asking for identification to vote is common sense. They want proof of citizenship in our elections, and the president is convinced of that," Leavitt summarized.

"I would add that, as you know, the American people overwhelmingly elected Republicans to lead not only the White House but also the House of Representatives and the Senate. The House did its job. The Senate also has to do its part," the press secretary concluded.

Thune reacted to these accusations by confronting the president. He stated that he has not yet secured the necessary votes to pass the SAVE America Act and pointed out that it is the Democrats who are blocking the project. The Senate leader, historically a member of the party establishment that despises Trump, is not particularly convincing the more moderate members of the Republican caucus.
