The President of the United States, Donald Trump, ordered on Tuesday through his social media that the American flag be flown at half-mast at all public offices and embassies abroad in honor of country music legend Dolly Parton, whose death was announced today in the afternoon.
"It is very sad to report that Dolly Parton, one of the greatest country music singers, and much more, in HISTORY, has just passed away. This is a true loss for millions of people. There has never been anyone like her, and there never will be. In her honor, I will lower the American flag across the United States for a period of one week starting tonight at 6:00 p.m. Rest in peace, Dolly!" the president wrote.
In a video posted on his Instagram account, Parton's nephew, Brian Seaver, was chosen by the singer's family to announce her passing. "My name is Brin Seaver, son of Cassie Parton, and today I represent the Parton and Owens family announcing the passing of my aunt, Dolly Rebecca Parton Dean, sister, 'Sis' and 'Granny' to one generation and 'Gigi' to the next."
