Donald Trump once again had a heated exchange with the American press during an interview with Kristen Welker on the Meet the Press program on NBC, after being persistently pressed about his allegations of electoral fraud in the United States. The president ended up leaving the interview after accusing the network and its host of acting with bias, malice, and media corruption.

The exchange occurred when Welker questioned Trump about his claims regarding the 2020 presidential elections and the vote counting in California. Far from backing down in the face of the journalistic operation, the president insisted that there was electoral manipulation and maintained that the same problem would be repeating itself currently.

“The elections were manipulated. They were dirty elections and it is happening again in California,” Trump stated during the interview, referring to the unusual direction the electoral process is taking in the state. The journalist responded that sufficient evidence had never been presented to prove fraud in the elections, but the Republican pointed directly at the delays in the California counting.

“Right now look at what is happening in California. Let me tell you, it’s been four days and they are not even close,” Trump noted, referring to the slow counting process. When Welker stated that this was the usual way California counts votes, the president sharply replied: “Because they are committing fraud.”

Trump demonstrated that the problem was evident by itself and asked if it was reasonable for an election to remain undecided several days later. “Just by looking at it is enough. Do you think it is appropriate to have had an election and five days later not be close to getting the results?,” he posed.

The president also harshly questioned the role of the major American media, which he has been accusing for years of maintaining a hostile coverage against him and the conservative movement. In that segment, Trump pointed directly at Welker and NBC itself.

"Either you are corrupt or you are stupid"

“Just as you are corrupt, your press is corrupt and Meet the Press is corrupt,” he shot. When the journalist tried to defend herself against the accusation, Trump doubled down on the criticism and told her: “Either you are corrupt or you are stupid.”

According to Trump, the problem is not limited to NBC, but also extends to ABC, CBS, and CNN, traditional media that he accused of operating with a biased and openly slanted editorial line. “Meet the Press is corrupt and so are ABC, CBS, and CNN. You are biased and corrupt media. Let’s end this,” he stated before taking off the microphone and ending the interview.
