Attack in Jerusalem: At least 6 dead, more than 20 injured

Palestinian terrorists opened fire on civilians at the Ramot neighborhood intersection, north of the city

Monday morning was marked by tragedy in the Israeli capital. At least six people were killed and dozens were injured when two terrorists opened fire on civilians at the Ramot intersection, north of Jerusalem. The attack, carried out in broad daylight, turned an ordinary commute into a scene of horror.

Four of the victims were pronounced dead at the scene: a man in his 50s and three young men in their thirties. Later, a 50-year-old woman died at Shaare Zedek Medical Center, where she was rushed. A sixth victim died hours later.

In total, at least 21 people were hospitalized in three medical centers in the city, including Shaare Zedek and Hadassah, with diagnoses ranging from minor injuries to critical cases.

The strikers, identified as Palestinian men in their twenties from the towns of El-Kubeiba and Katanna, boarded the line 62 bus and began shooting indiscriminately at passengers and bystanders waiting at the stop.

The swift response of a soldier and several armed civilians prevented a greater massacre: they managed to return fire and neutralize the terrorists at the scene.

Both Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad praised the massacre, while Israeli security forces launched a large-scale operation in the Ramallah area. Several villages were surrounded in search of possible accomplices, and the army deployed four additional companies in the West Bank.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu arrived at the scene of the attack after holding a situation assessment with the security leadership. "We are facing a difficult and painful scene," a government official stated. Meanwhile, access points to Jerusalem were closed, including the section of Highway 1 from the Arzaim tunnel eastward, a measure that could last several hours.

Testimonies from paramedics and survivors reveal the magnitude of the attack. "We found unconscious people on the ground, shattered glass everywhere, screams and confusion," said Nadav Taib, a member of Magen David Adom. Another paramedic, Fadi Dkaidek, described the situation as "a very severe scene, with critically injured people and an urgent need for rapid evacuations."

A bus passenger summed up the terror experienced: "The bus was full, and as soon as it stopped at the station, the shooting began. I had never heard gunfire of that magnitude. I only thought about hiding to survive."

The attack in Ramot once again highlights the vulnerability of daily life in Jerusalem, where terrorist violence continues to claim innocent lives despite ongoing efforts to strengthen security.
