Sheinbaum will go on Easter vacation even though she is not religious.
The president of Mexico stated that he will take Easter vacation, so who is in charge of the country then?
Despite having openly declared that she is neither Catholic nor religious, President Claudia Sheinbaum, will take a few days of vacation for Holy Week.
In an exposition of her plans, the leader will take a break at the National Palace, where she assures that she will take the opportunity to see her grandson.
During her conference this Wednesday, Sheinbaum confirmed that she will suspend the "morning conferences" on Thursday and Friday, and that she will not leave Mexico City.

She also hinted that she doesn't plan to carry out any official activity during those days, while thousands of Mexican families face a security crisis, violence, and lack of opportunities.
"Are you going anywhere? – No, we are going to be here, we are going to take the opportunity to see the grandson"
she declared lightly, as if the country were calm.
Who is in charge of the country while Sheinbaum rests?
In the absence of the president, the Ministry of the Interior assumes the command of the Executive Power. In this case, Rosa Icela Rodríguez Velázquez would be responsible for assuming the provisional responsibility of the Presidency of Mexico. However, so far, the official has not confirmed if she will take the reins during these days.
It is worth remembering that in 2023, former President López Obrador also took a break during Holy Week. That time, the then head of the Interior, Adán Augusto López Hernández, briefly assumed the position.

The president's decision was criticized on social media by users. They claim that, while the country deals with alarming levels of violence, forced disappearances, and a narco-state embedded in power, its leaders take the top-level of going on vacation. Even though they don't believe in the holiday and without offering clear guarantees of who is in charge of the country.
What if crime doesn't take a vacation?
The question remains, who responds if a national crisis occurs during these days? Who can be held accountable if the country, as has happened before, is shaken again by an act of violence or corruption?
With each decision of this nature, Morena and Sheinbaum show that personal well-being and comfort continue to be above national duty.
