'Los Chapitos' perpetrated a massacre at a rehabilitation center in Culiacán

In the early hours of April 7, an armed commando stormed the Shaddai rehabilitation center in the Colinas de San Miguel neighborhood, in Culiacán, Sinaloa.

The toll was nine people executed and five more seriously injured.

According to Security Secretary Omar García Harfuch, the attack was part of an offensive against "Los Mayos," a rival faction led by Ismael “El Mayo” Zambada.

The rehabilitation center had been identified as a refuge for members or collaborators of that cell. The strikers entered violently, subdued the inmates, and opened fire indiscriminately.

Narco crimes in rehabilitation centers

The President of the Union of Rehabilitation Center Networks, Guillermo Rodríguez Gaxiola, was kidnapped and hours later found dead south of Culiacán.

His body was abandoned in a bag with signs of torture. The crime occurred in broad daylight. This attack adds to a chain of assaults on rehabilitation centerssince September 2024.

In the context of the war between factions of the Sinaloa Cartel, more than 800 people have died in the conflict, without a single high-profile arrest.

Sinaloa: lawless and ungovernable land

Of the 256 rehabilitation centers operating in the state, only 102 are regulated.

The rest operate informally, under the constant threat of organized crime. The narco has turned these spaces into battlefields.

The government of Rubén Rocha Moya, governor of Sinaloa for Morena, has only issued lukewarm statements without delving into the real problem.
 

From the federal government, Sheinbaum keeps the script of silence, denial, self-deception.

Meanwhile, the 4T talks about peace, the narco executes in cold blood.

Centers that should heal addictions end up turned into graves. In Sinaloa, neither praying nor rehabilitating guarantees life. Because here, death rules... and the State obeys.

Death not only rules. It gives orders, dictates destinies.

It sits in the seat of power and writes, with blood, the rules of the game, evidently as a consequence of a failed state.
