Searching mothers march against impunity and demand truth from the government
They denounce Sheinbaum's indifference and demand international intervention in the face of the disappearance crisis
Dozens of searching mothers march this May 10 demanding that President Claudia Sheinbaum break what they called a "pact of impunity" that sustains the crisis of disappearances in Mexico.
They denounced the official indifference to more than 127,000 disappeared. The government didn't assume its responsibility. Mothers and collectives marched through Paseo de la Reforma with banners and slogans.
They stated that there was no political will to search for the disappeared. They accused the government of following the cover-up route of López Obrador. "They were taken alive, we want them back alive," they shouted while marching with candles and crosses.
They accused Sheinbaum of ignoring the UN report, which pointed out systematic disappearances with the complicity of authorities.
They denounce simulation and reforms without consulting the victims
Members of FUNDEC-FUNDEM, as well as other collectives, demanded that the president request the UN to create an independent investigation mechanism, as they completely distrust the Attorney General's Office.
They considered that Sheinbaum repeats the same denial discourse that she criticized so much in her adversaries. "We are not ignorant, they don't fool us with simulated reforms," they claimed, referring to the Executive's attempts to modify the Victims' Law without considering the affected families.
They also warned that the restructuring of the FGR must include the judicial process against those who have allowed this national tragedy, instead of rewarding them with positions or impunity.
Funeral vigil and international call
On the night of May 9, collectives held a vigil at the Monument to the Mother. They paid tribute to deceased searching mothers and demanded truth, justice, and punishment for those who uphold the pact of institutional silence.
The statement was clear: there will be no trust in this government as long as the cover-up of disappearances persists. If Sheinbaum doesn't act with humility and responsibility, the mothers will seek justice before international bodies.
The government, once again, locks itself in its triumphalist narrative. The mothers cry alone. They celebrate doctored figures while reality screams from the streets and the graves. Institutional simulation weighs more than the disappeared names, and indifference is already a state policy.
Mexico doesn't need speeches, it needs truth. It needs a government that looks its dead in the eye and stops rewarding silence.
