Daniel Noboa stated: 'I love Mexico, but its government doesn't love me.'

The president of Ecuador spoke very well of Mexico despite not being liked by the current leftist government

The President of Ecuador, Daniel Noboa, expressed his appreciation for Mexico, even though the Mexican government doesn't have the same regard for him.

These statements arise amid the diplomatic crisis between Mexico and Ecuador. The crisis was triggered by the entry of Ecuadorian police into the Mexican embassy in Quito to arrest the former Vice President Jorge Glas.

"I personally love Mexico, but it seems I'm not liked by the Mexican government": Noboa commented in a conversation with Mexican speaker Daniel Habif.

In that talk, the First Lady Lavinia Valbonesi, a renowned nutritionist and influencer, also participated. The president hinted at the possibility of improving relations between both nations in the future, although without giving more details about it.

The tense situation between both countries

Noboa highlighted his affection for Mexico, describing it as an extraordinary country where he has several friends, including university classmates with whom he still keeps in touch.

However,  the diplomatic situation remains tense with both countries facing each other in the International Court of Justice in The Hague. Both face mutual accusations of violations of international agreements.

Ecuador points out that Mexico didn't respect the diplomatic asylum regulations in the case of Glas. Meanwhile, Mexico accuses Ecuador of violating the inviolability of its diplomatic premises with the police incursion on April 5, 2024.

That day, the government of Andrés Manuel López Obrador had granted political asylum to Glas, considering him a political persecuted. However, a few hours later, Ecuadorian authorities forcibly entered the embassy and arrested him.

Currently, Glas is serving an eight-year prison sentence for corruption offenses.Glas, a protégé of AMLO, faces a new thirteen-year sentence for alleged embezzlement of public funds in the post-earthquake reconstruction of 2016.

Sheinbaum maintains her predecessor's stance, as always

Meanwhile, the President of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, has maintained her predecessor's stance and continues to demand that Ecuador allow Glas to travel to Mexico.

She has even expressed her preference for the victory of the leftist and ally of Venezuelan dictator Nicolas Maduro, Luisa González in the upcoming Ecuadorian elections. The candidate has hinted that she would grant a safe-conduct to the corrupt former Vice President.

In the conversation with Habif, Noboa was also questioned about the most influential contacts he has on his phone. Mentioning the presidents Emmanuel Macron (France), Javier Milei (Argentina), and Luiz Inácio Lula Da Silva (Brazil).

Noboa maintains private conversations with some of them, allowing him to exchange opinions on difficult decisions with leaders in similar positions.
