Frente Amplio is more than a political force; it is an association to commit crimes, where its main leaders gain access to government and from there plunder public coffers.
Charles Carrera Leal, former senator of Frente Amplio, from the MPP list 609, was indicted on June 11, 2025, for extremely serious crimes of corruption committed in 2012 as Director General of the Ministry of the Interior.

Indicted for serious crimes
The charges include fraud, ideological falsification of a public document (as an indirect participant), and abuse of privileged information.
These are related to an incident in La Paloma, Rocha, where Víctor Hernández was left paraplegic by a stray bullet, allegedly linked to a police event.
Carrera authorized his treatment at the Police Hospital, despite being a civilian, and granted enormous economic privileges, including monthly payments.
The audios
Audio recordings from 2013, broadcast on the television program Santo y Seña, suggest that Carrera asked Hernández's family to keep the arrangement secret, which led to accusations of cover-up.
Prosecutor Sandra Fleitas keeps that Frente Amplio member Carrera used public funds in an absolutely irregular manner, with an estimated cost of 260,350 dollars, and committed abuse of authority.
The legal defense, led by attorneys Juan González and Lucía Fernández Ramírez, was a true disaster.
