After more than a decade of rumors, 24 Jump Street has finally begun to take shape. According to Variety, Sony is already working on a new installment of the successful buddy cop comedy franchise and is in talks with Jonah Hill, Channing Tatum, and Ice Cube to reprise their iconic characters.
The franchise, which became a box office phenomenon over the past decade, could thus add a third film that continues the story of Schmidt and Jenko, the undercover agents who won over audiences.

Who is behind the new Jump Street movie
According to the report from Variety, the direction will be handled by Rodney Rothman, known for his work on Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.
In addition to directing, Rothman co-wrote the script with Jonah Hill and Meghan Malloy. Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, who were responsible for the first two films released in 2012 and 2014, will also return as producers.
Neal H. Moritz will be part of the production again, while Channing Tatum and Reid Carolin will work from Free Association. Jonah Hill will participate alongside Matt Dines under the Strong Baby label.

Why the movie will be called 24 Jump Street and not 23 Jump Street
One of the details that caught the most attention is the title chosen by Sony.
The new installment will be named 24 Jump Street, deliberately skipping the number 23. The decision maintains one of the recurring jokes of the franchise, characterized by constantly mocking Hollywood sequels and reboots.
Why will the movie be called 24 Jump Street and not 23 Jump Street
In the final scene of 22 Jump Street, Schmidt and Jenko starred in a long succession of fake sequels, including infiltrations in medical, culinary, firefighting, dance schools, and even space adventures. That sequence already suggested that a hypothetical 23 Jump Street could exist within the universe of the saga.
The return of a franchise that was a global success
The first film, 21 Jump Street, hit theaters in 2012 and introduced Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum as two underachieving cops who had to infiltrate a high school to dismantle a drug trafficking ring.
The production grossed over 200 million dollars worldwide and quickly became an unexpected success for Sony.

Two years later, 22 Jump Street arrived, where the protagonists repeated the formula at a university. The sequel surpassed the original and reached a global gross of nearly 331 million dollars.
Will Jonah Hill, Channing Tatum, and Ice Cube return?
For now, the three actors are in talks to return to the franchise.
It has been reported that Channing Tatum has already received a formal offer to reprise his role as Jenko, while negotiations with the rest of the cast are expected to take place in the coming weeks.
