Five months after his arrival, Darío Benedetto terminated his contract with Olimpia.
The former Boca player decided to end his short stint at the Paraguayan club and became a free agent
With 0 goals, 1 assist, and 1 expulsion in 14 matches, Darío Benedetto terminated his contract with Olimpia, a club he joined just five months ago. The forward had arrived in Paraguay as a star signing, but his stint ended prematurely and without results. This Monday, the club confirmed his departure.
"After discussions between the parties, it has been mutually agreed to terminate the contractual relationship with the footballer Darío Benedetto. This decision will take effect immediately," the institution announced through its social media.

The striker will receive his salary until May, thus marking a third consecutive departure through contract termination, as had already happened at Boca and then at Querétaro, in Mexico.
His time at the Dean was lackluster, as he failed to find his place or contribute on the field. In addition to his goal drought, he was left without a coach after the departure of Martín Palermo, lost the Paraguayan Super Cup, was eliminated from the Libertadores in the group stage, and Olimpia is far from the leader in the local championship.

Meanwhile, an alarming fact about Pipa is that he hasn't scored since February 2024, when he was still playing at Boca. Since then, he has gone 28 matches without scoring during his stints in Argentina, Mexico, and Paraguay.
With the team struggling and lacking individual responses, the forward quickly lost the support of the fans. "Thanks for nothing" was one of the most repeated phrases on social media after his departure was announced. At 35 years old, his sporting future is uncertain.
Benedetto's explanation
Hours after the official confirmation, Benedetto himself spoke about his decision and provided details about the reasons that led him to leave the club on his Instagram account.
"I want to clarify that my contract termination is purely and exclusively for personal reasons unrelated to the institution. Thanks to the board of directors for understanding the situation and handling it with total professionalism. I appreciate the support and wish you the best of success," the forward wrote on his Instagram account, where he also bid farewell to Olimpia.
