The First Lady of the United States, Melania Trump, will host representatives from Russia and Ukraine at the White House this Thursday, in a diplomatic initiative aimed at opening new channels of dialogue ahead of the planned tripartite negotiations in Abu Dhabi on November 10 and 11. The meeting comes amid efforts by the Donald Trump administration to find a way out of the war and move towards an agreement that would end the conflict.
The meeting will have a particularity: it will be driven by Melania, who has developed independent humanitarian efforts in recent months to facilitate the evacuation of civilians from combat-affected areas. Her intervention led to a localized ceasefire in Oleshky, a Ukrainian city occupied by Russia, with the aim of ensuring the safe exit of residents trapped in the midst of the war.
Among the Russian representatives participating will be Kirill Dmitriev, an advisor to the Kremlin on international economic cooperation, and Yana Lantratova, the Russian Ombudsman for human rights. From Ukraine, the Ombudsman, Dmytro Lubinets, will be present, having confirmed his trip to Washington to meet with the American First Lady.
The Trump administration described the gathering as an "extraordinary event," as it will allow representatives from the two warring countries to meet in person at the U.S. Government's headquarters.
Melania Trump received recognition from Zelensky for her humanitarian efforts
Melania's intervention in the conflict was acknowledged by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, who awarded her the Order of Princess Olga of the First Class, an official distinction granted for her humanitarian contribution and her work in defense of human rights.
The Ukrainian presidential decree highlighted her "significant personal contribution to humanitarian support for Ukraine, as well as her active work in defense of human rights and in the field of charity."

The recognition came after the American First Lady pushed for efforts to achieve a temporary ceasefire in Oleshky and the surrounding Kherson region. The truce allowed for the organization of demining of roads and facilitated the evacuation of civilians to territories controlled by either Ukraine or Russia.
Melania Trump's office confirmed that the initiative was driven directly by her, without relying on a traditional diplomatic structure. The efforts focused on the situation of residents who had been facing food and medicine shortages for weeks in a conflict-affected area.
