The First Lady of the United States will lead a diplomatic meeting with delegates from both countries ahead of the talks scheduled for November 10 and 11

The First Lady of the United States, Melania Trump, will host representatives from Russia and Ukraine at the White House this Thursday, in a diplomatic initiative aimed at opening new channels of dialogue ahead of the planned tripartite negotiations in Abu Dhabi on November 10 and 11. The meeting comes amid efforts by the Donald Trump administration to find a way out of the war and move towards an agreement that would end the conflict.

The meeting will have a particularity: it will be driven by Melania, who has developed independent humanitarian efforts in recent months to facilitate the evacuation of civilians from combat-affected areas. Her intervention led to a localized ceasefire in Oleshky, a Ukrainian city occupied by Russia, with the aim of ensuring the safe exit of residents trapped in the midst of the war.

Among the Russian representatives participating will be Kirill Dmitriev, an advisor to the Kremlin on international economic cooperation, and Yana Lantratova, the Russian ombudsman for human rights. From Ukraine, the ombudsman, Dmytro Lubinets, will be present, having confirmed his trip to Washington to meet with the U.S. First Lady.

The Trump administration described the gathering as an "extraordinary event," as it will bring together representatives of the two warring countries in person at the U.S. government headquarters.

Melania Trump received recognition from Zelensky for her humanitarian efforts

Melania's intervention in the conflict was acknowledged by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, who awarded her the Order of Princess Olga of the First Class, an official distinction granted for her humanitarian contribution and her work in defense of human rights.

The Ukrainian presidential decree highlighted her "significant personal contribution to humanitarian support for Ukraine, as well as her active work in defense of human rights and in the field of charity."

The recognition came after the U.S. First Lady pushed for efforts to achieve a temporary ceasefire in Oleshky and the surrounding Kherson region. The truce allowed for the organization of demining roads and facilitated the evacuation of civilians to territories controlled by either Ukraine or Russia.

Melania Trump's office confirmed that the initiative was driven directly by her, without relying on a traditional diplomatic structure. The efforts focused on the situation of residents who had been facing food and medicine shortages for weeks in an area affected by the fighting.

"This achievement represents an unprecedented diplomatic initiative by a U.S. First Lady," her office highlighted in a statement.

The intervention represents a different dimension of Washington's foreign policy, with Melania using her institutional position to promote concrete humanitarian agreements between the warring parties.

The meeting at the White House will precede negotiations between Trump, Putin, and Zelensky

The meeting led by Melania will take place before the planned talks in Abu Dhabi on November 10 and 11. There, representatives from Russia, Ukraine, and the United States are expected to participate, marking the first trilateral contacts of this kind since February.

The Ukrainian president confirmed on Wednesday that he had a conversation lasting approximately an hour and a half with U.S. envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, who are involved in the Trump administration's diplomatic efforts to bridge positions.

The Washington initiative is unfolding while Donald Trump keeps the communication channel open with Vladimir Putin and seeks to use direct dialogue to find a solution to the conflict.

The rapprochement between the two leaders has also raised concerns in Kyiv, given the possibility that the negotiations may involve changes in the U.S. position on certain conditions of the war.

In this context, the meeting driven by Melania takes on special significance. The First Lady is scheduled to deliver a speech this Thursday at 11:00 AM local time from the White House, where she is expected to outline the objectives of her humanitarian efforts.

The gathering demonstrates that the U.S. administration is using different channels to try to bring the parties closer together. While Trump and his envoys work on the political and diplomatic front, Melania has managed to open a pathway focused on the protection of civilians.

With the meeting in Washington and the subsequent talks in Abu Dhabi, the United States aims to keep the possibility of negotiations active, allowing progress towards the end of a war that is already in its fifth year.
