One year after his separation, Axel confessed that he wants to become a priest.

The singer surprised during an interview by revealing his deep desire to become a Franciscan priest

After keeping a low profile for several months, Axel became news again due to a statement that surprised both his followers and the general public. In a recent interview on El Lapré, the streaming show hosted by Grego Rosselló and Cande Molfese, the musician revealed that he wants to become a priest, more precisely, a Franciscan priest.

"At one point I wanted to be a priest. I think I'm going to be one," the artist said, visibly convinced of that possibility. The statement left the hosts speechless, and they did not hide their surprise. "Can you imagine Axel giving you mass on Sunday? The first thing I think of is a music video," Rosselló joked, laughing.

Although the confession was unexpected, Axel made it clear that his connection with spirituality is not new. During the interview, he recalled his childhood and revealed that as a child he was an altar boy. He also expressed his deep faith in God, a constant that has run through many of his songs: Celebra la vida, Amo, Te voy a amar.

"God made me, gave me the grace to have some songs that have resonated very strongly," he stated. He added that his devotion has a specific name: Saint Francis of Assisi. "I've been devoted to Saint Francis since I was 12 years old. I've always wanted to be a Franciscan. A couple of months ago I felt like I received a sign from above," he revealed, implying that his spiritual vocation could become a future reality.

The confession comes just as a year has passed since Axel publicly announced his separation from Delfina Lauría, with whom he shared 16 years of life and four children. In January 2024, through a statement, the singer expressed his pain over the breakup: "I always imagined growing old next to the person I had chosen to start a family with," he wrote at the time.

"Of course it hurts and although it's a decision we made several months ago, only today, after individual and couples therapy, after self-reflection and much learning, do I feel emotionally able to share it." Since then, Axel has remained without a known partner, and has largely stayed away from public exposure.
