Attention River: Lautaro Martínez's Inter is left without a coach for the Club World Cup
After the painful defeat in the Champions League final, Simone Inzaghi resigned from the Nerazzurri to accept the multimillion-dollar offer from Al Hilal of Saudi Arabia
Simone Inzaghi is no longer Inter's coach after four years at the helm and will manage Al Hilal, shaking up Lautaro Martínez's outlook and leaving River expectant ahead of the Club World Cup.
The Italian coach accepted a lucrative offer from Arab football for three seasons and will not be present at the international tournament, where the Milan side will debut on June 17 against Monterrey and could face Marcelo Gallardo's team.
In this context, Inter has already begun searching for his replacement and one of the main candidates is Cesc Fàbregas, current coach of Como FC, who recently led a remarkable campaign in Serie A. Another strong contender is Roberto De Zerbi, former Brighton coach and current Olympique de Marseille manager. Slightly further behind are Patrick Vieira (Genoa) and Cristian Chivu (Parma).

Inzaghi's farewell message
After his official departure from Inter Milan, Simone Inzaghi published an emotional letter addressed to the Nerazzurri family, in which he reflected on his time at the club and expressed gratitude for the support received during his tenure.
"The time has come to say goodbye to this club after four years of service, during which I gave everything," began the Italian coach, who leaves after winning six titles, including the recent Second Star Scudetto and the memorable 2023 Champions League campaign.

Inzaghi emphasized that his dedication was total from day one and that he always had the support of the entire Inter community: "Every day, my first and last thought was always for Inter," he stated, also highlighting the "professionalism and passion" he found in the club's players, executives, and staff.
In a grateful tone, he appreciated the support of the shareholders and the president, with whom he maintained constant dialogue. He also revealed that the departure was mutually agreed upon after a recent conversation: "We were honest and together decided to conclude this magnificent journey."
Finally, Inzaghi dedicated a heartfelt message to the fans: "I want to dedicate a final word to the millions of Nerazzurri supporters who cheered me on, to those who cried and suffered in difficult moments, and then laughed and celebrated in the six victories we experienced together." He concluded with a rallying cry that sums up his bond with the club: "Forza Inter."
An offer impossible to refuse
Days before the Champions League final, Al Hilal's interest in hiring Inzaghi as their new coach became public. The Saudi club, which had Neymar until January and recently said goodbye to Jorge Jesus, offered an amount close to 50 million euros, according to Marca newspaper. An astronomical proposal that was initially rejected, but ultimately accepted after the European outcome.

With his cycle complete, Simone Inzaghi bids farewell to Inter with six titles: the 2023/24 Serie A, two Coppa Italia trophies (2021/22 and 2022/23), and three Italian Super Cups (2021/22, 2022/23, and 2023/24). In total, he managed 217 matches, with a record of 141 wins, 41 draws, and 35 losses. The last, against PSG, was also the most painful of his tenure.
