Andrés Mego, organizer of La Derecha Fest, spoke about the attempted assassination

Mego recounted the brutal attempted murder he suffered in his home

Andrés Mego, founder of the publishing house Hojas del Sur and one of the organizers of the event La Derecha Fest, recounted the brutal attempted murder he suffered at his home located in the Buenos Aires neighborhood of Villa Pueyrredón during the early morning hours of July 16. The incident, which was only recently released, included violent blows, asphyxiation, fractures, and so far, two minors involved have been detained.

According to his account, a group of six individuals broke into his home. One of them threatened his daughter with a weapon inside her room, while the other five focused their physical attack on him.

"They forced me to my knees, with a garbage bag over my face to suffocate me. They tightened a rope around my neck. There, on my knees, I received the final blow: a 10-kilogram (22-pound) dumbbell directly to my head. I passed out. I suppose they thought I was dead, so they left," Mego described on his X account.

The event organizer also clarified that, contrary to what initial reports claimed, his daughter was not kidnapped and the criminals did not steal personal computers or other electronic devices. The only item stolen was the family vehicle, which was abandoned a few hours later.

"They didn't kidnap my daughter, I repeat: they didn't kidnap my daughter. They didn't steal anything from me, except for the car they took when they left and abandoned a few hours later," he emphasized.

He also denied that the motive for the attack was economic. "I offered them money, they weren't interested. I offered them the Macs, neither. They only wanted to kill me," he stated firmly.

According to sources close to the investigation, during the violent episode the strikers repeatedly struck him with fists, kicks, and even dumbbells, leaving him unconscious. "I have fractured ribs, several broken teeth, and dozens of stitches in my head. I'm recovering," he recounted.

After the assault, his daughter, who had remained immobilized throughout the incident, managed to leave her room and found her father lying on the floor, covered in blood. "She was the one who woke me up," Mego recounted about that moment.

The incident prompted intervention by the City Police and fell under the jurisdiction of Criminal and Correctional Court No. 29, with prosecutor Lucio Herrera in charge. The initial investigative work made it possible to identify two of those involved thanks to security cameras in the area.

Both suspects, 17 years old and with no criminal record, were arrested after three raids carried out in the Buenos Aires suburbs, in the towns of Villa Raffo and Villa Lynch. The Volkswagen Virtus car that had been stolen was later found in Vicente López. For now, investigators haven't been able to locate the other four involved.

"So far there are two detainees: minors, Argentine. There are no Colombians involved at this time. The other four are being sought. Everything is under investigation. I never said anything different from what I'm saying here. Because the truth, when it's clear, doesn't need embellishments," Mego stated, alluding to the initial reports circulated about his case.
