A tragedy has shaken the Alicante, Spain, community in recent hours, where an Argentine couple was found dead in their apartment after their child's daycare alerted authorities because no one had come to pick him up.
The case, which is still under investigation, initially points to a murder followed by suicide.
Everything began when the nursery school attended by the couple's son—a boy between 2 and 3 years old—noticed that neither of his parents had come to pick him up at the usual time.
After several unsuccessful attempts to make contact, the child's aunt, who was listed as the emergency contact, was reached. She immediately went to the residence located at 13 Cánovas del Castillo Street, where she found a devastating scene.
Upon entering the apartment, she discovered in one of the rooms the body of the young Argentine woman, 29 years old, murdered with multiple stab wounds. On the balcony, hanging from the terrace awning, was the body of her partner, a 34-year-old man, also Argentine. Both held Italian citizenship and, according to sources close to the case, were going through a separation process.
What is known so far?
The Alicante Local Police arrived at the scene after the alert, and units from the USR and GRUMAI groups attempted to resuscitate the woman, but there was no possibility of assistance: she had been dead for hours. The case was immediately handed over to the Homicide Group and the Scientific Police.
The main hypothesis, for now, is that the man attacked his partner and then committed suicide. Nevertheless, the police are working on a precise reconstruction of the events to confirm the timeline, determine whether the woman tried to defend herself, and rule out third-party involvement.
Sources from the investigation indicated that there were no prior records of gender-based violence, no previous complaints, and no entries in Viogen, the system that monitors cases of gender-based violence in Spain.
The bodies were transferred to the Alicante Institute of Legal Medicine, where forensic experts must clarify key details: the exact time of death, the injuries sustained by the victim, and any additional evidence that may help understand the development of the crime.
