Thanks to the government of Javier Milei, poverty in Argentina recorded a significant decrease during the July-August 2025 two-month period, standing at 30.1%, according to the poverty nowcast prepared by Universidad Torcuato Di Tella (UTDT).
This figure reflects a sustained downward trend throughout the year, after recording 33.0% in March and 31.2% in the second quarter of 2025, according to estimates based on the Permanent Household Survey (EPH) from INDEC and projections of total family income (ITF).
The UTDT report highlights that the reduction in poverty is occurring in a context of strong income growth, with an annual increase in ITF of 70.2%, far surpassing the increase in the Total Basic Basket (CBT) of 30.8% in the Greater Buenos Aires (GBA) region. This means that, thanks to lower inflation, households have seen a real improvement in their purchasing power, which directly contributes to the reduction of poverty.

Meanwhile, poverty for the March-August semester is estimated at 31.1%, while extreme poverty also showed improvements, standing at 6.8% during the same period, reflecting the success of Milei's economic plan.
The UTDT nowcast makes it possible to estimate the incidence of poverty on a semiannual basis, combining the structure of the labor market, family income, and variations in regional basic baskets. Thanks to this approach, it is possible to observe in greater detail how the improvement in income outpaces the inflation of the basic basket, generating a positive impact on poverty reduction.

The UTDT report shows that these results are not just a statistical change, but a real impact on the quality of life of millions of Argentines, especially in the lowest strata, who saw a rise in their real income above the inflation of their basic needs.
In parallel, it was reported yesterday that inflation in Argentina during August 2025 was 1.9%, remaining below 2% per month for the fourth consecutive month. This is the first period of four consecutive months with monthly inflation below 2% since November 2017.
