With the arrival of New Year 2026, thousands of cars head out on the road toward the coast, the interior, and different tourist destinations. As every summer, road controls become stricter and any carelessness can end in a fine or delay.
To travel with peace of mind, it is key to check the mandatory documentation before starting the trip. Having everything in order, whether in physical or digital format, prevents setbacks in the middle of the trip.
Mandatory documents to drive on the road
Before leaving, make sure you bring these basic papers. They are required throughout the country and can be requested at any checkpoint.
- National Identity Document (DNI): it must be valid and in physical format. An expired DNI or only digital DNI is not valid.
- National Driver's License: it can be presented in digital format through the Mi Argentina app. The QR code is updated every 24 hours and the jurisdiction must match the DNI.
- Vehicle identification card: the green card certifies the ownership of the vehicle. It is advisable to carry it on paper and also in digital version.
- Valid auto insurance: the digital proof is usually sufficient, although bringing the last printed payment provides additional support.
- VTV or RTO sticker: it has to be visible and within its validity period. Driving with an expired inspection can entail serious penalties.
- License plate tax receipt: it is not mandatory in all provinces, but some request it. Bringing it avoids arguments.
Other key checks that authorities look at on the road
License plates must be original, legible, and properly placed. Damaged, covered, or expired temporary plates are grounds for a violation.
