The Chinese automaker BYD confirmed that it will aim to exceed 500 km/h with the Yangwang U9 Xtreme, its most extreme electric supercar. The new attempt is scheduled for November at the ATP test circuit in Papenburg, Germany.
In its previous test, the Yangwang U9 Xtreme had already reached 496.22 km/h, making it the fastest production car in the world. Now, the brand aims to break the 500 km/h barrier on the same circuit.
The key that drove a new attempt
According to information published by Top Gear after the 2025 trial, German driver Marc Basseng reportedly had an additional 1.5 seconds of acceleration at maximum power before braking.
This margin could be enough to push the Yangwang U9 Xtreme above 500 km/h, an unprecedented mark for high-performance electric cars.
In the previous attempt, BYD's model had already surpassed the 490.5 km/h of the Bugatti Chiron Super Sport 300+, one of the historical references among supercars.
Nearly 3,000 HP and four electric motors
The Yangwang U9 Xtreme is the most radical evolution of the U9, the electric supercar from BYD's premium brand.
