With a USD 3.9 billion plan, Camuzzi launches LNG del Plata, the first liquefaction project in Buenos Aires Province to export gas from Vaca Muerta

Camuzzi Gas Inversora announced LNG del Plata, an ambitious energy project that marks a turning point in Argentina's export matrix. The initiative will seek to incorporate the company into the liquefied natural gas (LNG) export circuit originating from Vaca Muerta, through a liquefaction vessel installed at the Port of La Plata.
The projected investment amounts to USD 3.9 billion over the next 20 years and constitutes the first development of its kind in Buenos Aires Province.
The proposal aligns with the national government's approach to boost infrastructure, promote exports, and transform the energy sector into a pillar for foreign currency inflow. The scheme will also strengthen domestic supply during periods of high demand, a key point for system stability.
How LNG del Plata will operate: a dual model designed to export and guarantee energy during winter
The project contemplates the use of existing gas pipelines during months of lower consumption, leveraging their idle capacity to transport gas from the Buchanan compressor plant (TGS) to Ensenada. There, an offshore platform will be built, connected by a 10-kilometer (6.2-mile) underwater pipeline where the liquefaction vessel will dock.
Unlike developments located in Río Negro, such as those of YPF and Southern Energy, this will be the first liquefaction node in Buenos Aires, which diversifies the country's infrastructure.
Camuzzi invertirá USD 3.900 millones para exportar gas de Vaca Muerta desde La Plata
LNG del Plata will enable the export of more than 2.4 million tons of LNG annually, equivalent to more than 9 million cubic meters of natural gas per day, between the months of September and May. This capacity positions Argentina at a competitive level within the international LNG market.
During winter, the flow will be reversed: the plant will release natural gas to supply the domestic market during periods of highest demand. According to Camuzzi, this dynamic will reduce electricity generation costs, increase energy security, and decrease dependence on more expensive liquid fuels.
A development aligned with Argentina's vision of growth and openness

Camuzzi's project reinforces the process of structural transformation driven from Casa Rosada, which promotes greater investment, modern infrastructure, and a solid export profile. The schedule foresees the start of construction in 2026 and the beginning of operations in 2028.
The company confirmed that it is holding advanced negotiations with an international firm specializing in floating liquefaction, a fact that positions the country within the most competitive global trends in the sector.
With LNG del Plata, Vaca Muerta continues to expand its reach from the heart of Patagonia to the Buenos Aires Atlantic coast, consolidating itself as one of the most promising energy resources in the Western Hemisphere.
