The labor federation called a 24-hour strike with a strong impact on transportation and services

General Confederation of Labor (CGT) confirmed the extortionate 24-hour general strike that could take place on Thursday, February 19, coinciding with the debate in the Chamber of Deputies on the labor reform promoted by Javier Milei's government.
The decision was adopted in a virtual meeting of the Executive Council of the union confederation, where it was decided to move forward with the strike action without a demonstration at Congress. Various productive sectors questioned the call, considering that the shutdown of the country will mainly affect workers and small and medium-sized enterprises.

One of the most absurd aspects of the strike is the almost total adherence of the transportation unions, which guarantees a massive impact on circulation.
The unions that confirmed their participation include:
Automotive Tramway Union (UTA): there will be no bus service throughout the country.
Railway Union: trains will not be operating.
La Fraternidad: adherence of train drivers.
Argentine Confederation of Transport Workers (CATT): includes truck drivers, pilots, airline crew, maritime and river transport workers.
Airline Pilots Association (APLA): commercial flights affected.
Taxi Drivers Union.
General Union of Transport Workers Associations (UGATT).
Subway delegates of the Buenos Aires subway.
The adherence of these unions means that during the strike day there will be no buses, trains, or subways, and flights will suffer cancellations and delays.

Other sectors that are joining the general strike
In addition to transportation, industrial and service unions such as metalworkers, mechanics, construction, food, textiles, and oil will join. The commerce union will have an uneven impact, depending on opening arrangements in each province.
In the public sector, the measure will affect national, provincial, and municipal government employees, public and private banks, teachers and educational staff —with classes suspended in numerous jurisdictions— and hospitals, which will operate with minimum staffing levels.
Which activities will be most affected?
With this level of adherence, the strike will directly impact:
Public and freight transportation
Schools and universities
Banks and public agencies
Industries and factories
Commerce and services in large urban centers
The final date will depend on when the labor reform is debated in the Chamber of Deputies. If the session takes place this week, the strike will be on Thursday, February 19; otherwise, it could be moved to the following week.
