The White House announced this Friday afternoon some members of the so-called "Peace Board", the body that will temporarily govern the Gaza Strip and supervise the ceasefire achieved by President Donald Trump last October.
Among the names that make up this body, the following stand out: Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Trump's special envoy Steve Witkoff, former British Prime Minister Tony Blair, and Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner. Trump himself is the chairman of the board, following a plan that the U.S. government released on the same day the truce was signed.
Although the White House did not detail the responsibilities of each member of the board, Trump's administration said that more members will be announced in the coming weeks. So far, no Palestinian is part of this body.
Billionaire Marc Rowan, World Bank President Ajay Banga, and Robert Gabriel, a Trump adviser, are other founding names that make up the body. Nickolay Mladenov, a Bulgarian career diplomat with extensive experience in the international field, was confirmed as the Board's director general.
In parallel with the functions of the Peace Board, Trump also appointed an 11-member "Gaza Executive Board" that will include Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, the U.N. special coordinator for the Middle East peace process, Sigrid Kaag, the United Arab Emirates minister of international cooperation, Reem Al-Hashimy, and Israeli-Cypriot billionaire Yakir Gabay.
This additional board will support Mladenov's office, which was entrusted with the paramount task of creating a technocratic government for the enclave that moves away from Hamas terrorism and hatred of its Jewish neighbors. The Palestinian terrorist group, following Trump's guidelines, will have to disarm and hand over its weapons.
The bloody war in Gaza broke out after Israel, in self-defense, invaded the Strip following activists led by the terrorist group Hamas killing 1,200 people and taking more than 250 hostages in an attack at the end of 2023.
