They also reported that Noelia asked to postpone the process for six months, but it was rejected.

The case of Noelia Castillo returned to the center of controversy after it became known that one of the doctors linked to the Catalan Guarantee and Evaluation Commission, the body that intervened in the authorization of her euthanasia, was sued for his public adherence to the pro-euthanasia movement. The revelation came from a journalistic publication that exposes the background of Josep Maria Busquets Font, author of a 2021 text in which he defended a position favorable to assisted deaths, before later joining as secretary of the same body

.

According to that article, the Spanish Foundation of Christian Lawyers used this writing as documentary evidence in a criminal complaint for alleged prevarication filed with the High Court of Justice of Catalonia. There, he argued that Busquets Font was not a neutral technical actor, but a figure with a previous ideological stance on euthanasia, which fueled suspicions about the impartiality of the commission.

The controversy still escalated with statements made by Noelia's father's lawyer, who said that the young woman had asked for a six-month delay to reflect on her euthanasia, but that this request was rejected. Noelia had written that she had doubts about the procedure, although the public administration discarded that document. This is a very serious accusation, because it suggests that there was a will to stop or at least review the final decision and that, even so,

the process went ahead.

Added to this is another explosive complaint: the lawyer revealed that Nuria Masnou, appointed president of the European Organization for the Coordination of Transplants, would be included in the same commission. From the defense of the family, it seems that the composition of the organ would not be composed of neutral profiles, but rather of actors close to militant or ideological structures favorable

to euthanasia.

The Barcelona Public Prosecutor's Office asked to close another case related to the file, while different judicial bodies had been supporting Noelia's euthanasia and ruling out criminal irregularities in the proceedings. Even so, the appearance of this precedent once again raised political, legal and moral questions about how the commission acted and on what criteria an irreversible decision was

made.

The Noelia case, far from being closed, continues to add elements that reactivate the debate and put under the spotlight the actions of the commission that intervened in the authorization. Complaints about possible irregularities, the history of some of its members and questions from the family once again raise questions about the guarantees of the procedure in an irreversible decision
