A CONICET researcher was fired for being violent and invented a supposed 'censorship.'
The CONICET Board had dismissed Pablo Alabarces after he assaulted colleagues during a virtual meeting
A few weeks ago, the National Council for Scientific and Technical Research (CONICET) removed the Kirchnerist Pablo Alabarces from his position as Coordinator of the Qualification and Promotion Board in the area of Social Sciences and Humanities, following a violent incident during a virtual meeting.
However, Alabarces, backed by sectors of the left and Kirchnerism, is trying to establish the narrative of an alleged "political persecution," in a new effort to operate through fake news against the management of CONICET's president, Daniel Salamone, and the Government of Javier Milei.
According to a statement from Salamone himself on his X account, the decision of the CONICET Board was based on a specific episode: Alabarces engaged in an act of "verbal violence" toward the vice president of the organization and other colleagues in a virtual meeting, after Salamone had left the meeting.
"I consider that mistreatment and verbal violence are sufficient reasons not to include someone in an evaluation committee," stated the president of CONICET, categorically denying any political motivation. Salamone also accused the leftist media Periferia of slandering him by spreading the false idea of persecution, calling it "another failed attempt to establish a supposed political persecution that doesn't exist."

The removal of Alabarces, Senior Researcher at CONICET and known for his studies on popular culture and soccer, was used by Kirchnerist sectors to fuel a discourse of "censorship." In the media Perfil, Alabarces stated that "it is necessary to establish a democratic front to oust Milei," linking his dismissal to an alleged "crisis in Argentine science." At the same time, he falsely claimed that he was dismissed for supposedly "criticizing" Salamone's management.
He also warned about a "brain drain" due to the alleged "defunding" of CONICET, false accusations that occur within the framework of a political strategy to generate fear and destabilize Milei's Government. These statements reflect a politicization of the scientific field that seeks to victimize Alabarces and divert attention from his violent behavior.
Figures like Alabarces, aligned with Kirchnerism, resort to victimization narratives to try to maintain their influence. Unions like ATE CONICET and AGD-UBA supported Alabarces's lies, repeating the narrative of political persecution, but did not present evidence contradicting the official version of the Board.

Salamone's management, which assumed the presidency of CONICET in December 2023, emphasizes the need to link research with the private sector and generate concrete results for society, in a context of limited resources after the Kirchnerist government of Alberto Fernández left the country on the brink of the worst crisis in history.
The dismissal of Alabarces, far from being an act of political censorship, reflects a commitment to integrity and respect in the academic field, in the face of manipulation attempts that only seek to perpetuate the privileges of a scientific elite disconnected from the country's needs.
