Stellantis and Renault are converting their plants for export. Trade liberalization is challenging the sector's efficiency

The national automotive industry projects a 2026 of solid recovery with estimated sales between 630,000 and 700,000 units in the country. The scenario of macroeconomic stability allows the manufacturers based in Córdoba to redefine their production scheme in order to grow further. The plants of Stellantis in Ferreyra and Renault in Santa Isabel lead this paradigm shift focused on local efficiency and scale.
Stellantis's plant in Ferreyra carried out an investment of more than 385 million dollars to modernize its assembly lines. The company transformed its production profile by incorporating the manufacturing of the Fiat Titano and the RAM Dakota to supply the entire region. This industrial complex stopped focusing only on the domestic market to become a competitive export platform.
Renault applied a similar strategy in Santa Isabel by discontinuing old models in order to concentrate on a single global vehicle. The French company invested 350 million dollars to manufacture the new pick-up based on the Niagara concept with cutting-edge technology. The project contemplates an annual production of 65,000 units, guaranteeing predictability and the creation of 1,000 new direct jobs.

External competition and modernization
The trade liberalization promoted by the national government encourages the arrival of new brands that challenge the traditional manufacturers. The arrival of more than 20 automakers of Chinese origin energizes the local supply with products that combine price and advanced technology. Projections indicate that Asian vehicles could capture between 10% and 15% of registrations during the 2026 cycle.
The quota of 50,000 duty-free units for hybrid and electric cars accelerates competition and directly benefits the consumer. This competitive pressure forces the local industry to improve its processes in order to offer more attractive prices in a free and healthy market. International competition stops being a threat to become an incentive that drives the modernization of the automotive fleet.

The 2026 commercial calendar includes the launch of between 50 and 70 new models that will renew the supply available at dealerships. The transition toward electrification advances gradually, supported by private investment that develops the charging infrastructure. Córdoba is consolidating itself as the laboratory of the new industrial model that integrates efficient national production into the globalized world.
