Córdoba taxis and remises without insurance: risk for everyone and double standards regarding apps
Drivers could operate without coverage. The disqualification of insurance companies exposed a crisis that endangers passengers
The disqualification of insurance companies such as La Nueva left hundreds of taxis and remises without valid policies, affecting public transportation in Córdoba. The company, which provided coverage to a large part of the sector, was sanctioned by the SSN for serious accounting irregularities. The situation is worsening with the recent exit of other key companies from the system, such as Orbis, Boston, and Caledonia.
Apas Córdoba warned that leading insurance companies aren't taking on these risks and that drivers have been left with no options to operate legally. The lack of coverage exposes drivers and users to serious economic and legal risks in the event of accidents. It also generates widespread distrust in the insurance system and in state regulation.
It is alarming that a sector that usually mobilizes against Uber and other apps is now providing service without insurance. The double standard is evident: while they question digital platforms for alleged informality, many taxis and remises fail to meet minimum safety conditions. Despite the risk, no special inspections or concrete measures have been announced by the municipality.

Disqualified insurance companies and chain consequences
The case of La Nueva adds to other sanctions imposed by the SSN so far in 2025, which include forced liquidation processes. Among the most relevant are Orbis, Boston, Caledonia, and TPC, which dismantled much of the offer for public transportation. This series of sanctions triggered a chain collapse that also affects private vehicles.
Apas Córdoba warned that distrust is growing among policyholders, leading many people to leave the system. The fear of being left without legal support and the lack of viable options deepen the crisis. The organization warns that there is a growing portion of the vehicle fleet without coverage, which puts society as a whole at risk.
Additionally, the SSN disqualified the former president of Boston and part of its board of directors for 10 years, seeking to clean up a collapsed system. However, the measures came too late to stop the impact on thousands of users. The coverage gap left by these companies has not yet been solved by national or provincial authorities.

National forum to discuss the insurance crisis
In this context, Apas Córdoba called for the 2025 National Insurance Forum, to be held on August 28 at the Quorum Hotel. Authorities such as Superintendent Guillermo Plate and sector specialists will participate. Economists and experts in regulation and new technologies applied to the field will also join.
The organizers expect the meeting to analyze possible solutions to the insurance system crisis. The focus will be on public transportation, which currently operates partially outside the law. Apas indicated that it is urgent to review the regulatory framework and guarantee the minimum mandatory coverage.
The situation also reopens the debate on the conditions that urban transportation actors must meet. While strict regulation is demanded for apps, taxis and remises circulate without insurance or visible sanctions. Thus, the municipality still hasn't replied with the same firmness to a crisis that affects the safety of citizens.
