The interim government of Venezuela appointed Daniella Cabello as the new Minister of Tourism, replacing Leticia Gómez, in a decision announced by interim president Delcy Rodríguez through a message on Telegram.
The appointment comes in a political context marked by the tightening of international sanctions, especially by the United States, and after the controversial presidential elections held in July 2024.
Cabello, 33 years old, is among the Venezuelan government officials sanctioned by the U.S. Treasury Department since November 2024, in response to the elections that led to a new proclamation of Nicolás Maduro as president.

These elections were rejected by the Venezuelan opposition and questioned by several governments and international organizations, which denounced irregularities in the electoral process.
In her message, Rodríguez stated that Cabello will assume "the responsibility of promoting the development and promotion of the National Tourism System", and she publicly thanked the work carried out by Leticia Gómez at the head of the ministry.
The change in the Tourism portfolio comes a few months after the presidential elections and in a scenario of greater diplomatic and economic pressure on the Venezuelan government.

The new minister belongs to a family with significant political weight in the country. She is the daughter of Diosdado Cabello, the infamous Minister of the Interior and one of the most influential figures of Chavismo, and of Marleny Contreras, a deputy of the National Assembly.
Before her appointment, Daniella Cabello served as president of the Venezuela Nation Brand Foundation and of the Export Promotion Agency, positions from which she has worked on the international projection of the country and on initiatives linked to the national image.
According to reports by various media outlets, Cabello also keeps a strong presence on social media, with more than 400,000 followers on Instagram and nearly 290,000 on TikTok.
These platforms have been used to disseminate content related to tourism, cultural promotion, and the image of Venezuela as an international destination, an aspect that the administration considers key within its communication strategy.

The inclusion of Cabello on the list of individuals sanctioned by the United States is linked to the political context following the 2024 elections. Washington justified the measures after assessing the legitimacy of the electoral process and the complaints filed by sectors of the opposition and part of the international community, which questioned the transparency and the conditions of the vote. The sanctions are part of a broader package aimed at senior officials of the Venezuelan Executive.
The change in leadership at the Ministry of Tourism is taking place at a time when the government identifies the sector as strategic for economic recovery, amid financial restrictions, sanctions, and difficulties in attracting foreign investment.
According to what has been published, the official will be in charge of the domestic and international promotion of tourism, as well as the development of projects associated with the nation brand and the export of tourism services.
Delcy Rodríguez emphasized that tourism management will be a relevant pillar within the government program, aimed at diversifying the economy and reducing dependence on oil revenues. Nevertheless, analysts point out that the context of sanctions and the limitations in international connectivity represent significant challenges for the growth of the sector.
