President Donald Trump made his strongest endorsement to date of former governor Andrew Cuomo on Monday, in the final stretch of the New York City mayoral election, urging city voters to unite to prevent the victory of socialist Democrat Zohran Mamdani.
In a message posted on his social network Truth Social, Trump warned that if Mamdani wins the election, New York will become a "total economic and social disaster", and stated that the federal government will not allocate significant funds to a city governed by "a communist."
"If the communist candidate Zohran Mamdani wins the mayoral election, it is very unlikely that I will contribute federal funds, beyond the legal minimum. New York has no chance of success or survival with a communist in charge," wrote the president.
The president, who has spent weeks encouraging Republicans to support Cuomo, was blunt in his message: "I would rather see an experienced Democrat win than a communist with no record of success. Cuomo has proven to be capable; Mamdani has not."

"Remember to vote tomorrow in New York. A vote for Curtis is a vote for 'Mumdumi' or whatever his name is. Vote for Cuomo!" wrote the tech magnate, followed by a brief but forceful: "VOTE CUOMO!"
Both Trump and Musk maintain that the election transcends party lines. Trump, during an interview broadcast by 60 Minutes, put it bluntly:
