The president of the United States, Donald Trump, announced that his administration has ordered the purchase of 25 new B-2 Spirit strategic bombers, a measure that will double the operational fleet of these aircraft and will significantly strengthen the country's deterrent power. The announcement comes in a context of growing tension in the Middle East, following recent episodes of violence and instability in Iran.
Trump made the announcement during a 90-minute question-and-answer session after his speech at the World Economic Forum in Davos. In his statement, he highlighted the technological and operational capabilities of the B-2, which he described as one of the most advanced weapons systems in the world. The president emphasized the bomber's precision and stealth, which are capable of carrying out complex missions without being detected.
The president recalled an operation carried out in June of last year, when B-2 bombers conducted a 37-hour round-trip flight from the United States to Iran to attack the Fordow nuclear facility, which is located under a mountain and protected by a fortified bunker. According to Trump, the mission managed to completely destroy the target, preventing Iran from advancing in the development of a nuclear weapon.
"They were only two months away from obtaining a nuclear weapon," Trump stated, who defended the operation as a decisive action to protect international security. He added that the attack changed the balance of power in the region and significantly weakened Iran's ability to act as a destabilizing force in the Middle East.

The announcement of the expansion of the B-2 fleet caused great expectations at the international level, since it coincided with reports indicating that the president has requested firm options from his military advisers in response to Iranian threats.
Trump's statements also came after the account associated with Iran's supreme leader, Ali Khamenei, posted hostile messages on the social network X, holding the United States responsible for the violence and internal unrest in the country.
Currently, the United States Air Force has 19 B-2 bombers in active service. The incorporation of 25 new units will represent an unprecedented expansion of this strategic capability.
