The President will meet at Fort Bragg with the military personnel who participated in the capture of Nicolás Maduro in Caracas

The President of the United States, Donald Trump, will meet this Friday at the military base Fort Bragg in North Carolina with the special forces soldiers who led the operation that culminated in the capture of former Venezuelan dictator Nicolás Maduro.

The First Lady, Melania Trump, will accompany the President during the official schedule, which will also include a meeting with the families of the service members who took part in the operation. The Press Secretary, Karoline Leavitt, confirmed that the President will speak with the members of the special units involved in the mission.

Fort Bragg —which regained its original name in February 2025 in honor of World War II paratrooper Roland L. Bragg— is the headquarters of Delta Force, officially known as 1st Special Forces Operational Detachment-Delta.

Delta Force and the operation in Caracas

Delta Force is one of the most secretive and specialized units in the U.S. Army. It is trained for counterterrorism missions, hostage rescue, and the capture of high-value strategic targets. Its selection processes are extremely rigorous, and the training is designed to operate under extreme pressure and with little advance notice.

Founded in 1979 by Colonel Charles Beckwith, the unit has taken part in some of the most emblematic operations in the recent military history of the United States. Among them, the capture of Saddam Hussein in 2003 and the elimination of the leader of the Islamic State, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, in 2019.

Maduro's capture was added to that list. The operation, called “Absolute Resolution,” began on January 3 when U.S. forces arrived by helicopter under cover of darkness and detained Maduro and his wife in a high-security compound in Caracas.

During a press conference held alongside Trump, the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, General Dan Caine, stated: “The word integration is not enough to describe the enormous complexity of a mission of this kind, an extraction so precise that it involved the takeoff of more than 150 aircraft across the entire Western Hemisphere.”

Trump publicly praised the operation as a display of U.S. military might, and he defended Washington's right to lead in the region.

Maduro's legal situation and new political landscape

Currently, Maduro is being held in the United States and faces charges of drug trafficking and other federal crimes. The former President pleaded not guilty and has a new court hearing scheduled for March 17 in New York.

After the operation in Caracas, Trump endorsed former vice president of the regime Delcy Rodríguez taking over the leadership in Venezuela. The condition for this was to reduce repression against Venezuelans and facilitate U.S. access to oil.

The meeting at Fort Bragg is part of that context. It is a formal recognition of the special forces and a political signal of support for the hemispheric security strategy promoted by the White House.
