In December 2013, Rodolfo D’Onofrio assumed the presidency of River after a chaotic period with Daniel Passarella in charge. Not even the most optimistic could have imagined that during his two terms he would achieve historic titles, economic order, and a deep renovation of the Estadio Monumental that was later continued by Jorge Brito. His administration left him as a leader respected by the fans, something unusual in Argentine soccer.
Looking ahead to the presidential elections in November 2025, D’Onofrio confirmed in an interview with Radio La Red that he will not run again: "The family agrees with the decision I have made. I'm not going to run as a candidate. Why? After eight years, one should not remain in power indefinitely. It's necessary to give way to younger people. I don't believe in saviors. I believe in teams, in groups of people".
The former president stated that he will work actively so that Stéfano Di Carlo, current general secretary and former vice president, will be the one to continue the official project: "I'm helping, working so that Stéfano Di Carlo becomes president. I'm supporting him in the project. With him, with Andrés Ballotta, we're working on the project. I'm going to take care of the organization and everything they need from me. Not to be someone who is in the shadows, no…".
