Franco Alejandro Sosa, 19 years old, is in custody for causing a road tragedy on Route 19 while he was prohibited from driving. The young man was driving a Volkswagen Bora when he rear-ended a Fiat 147 occupied by a family returning from dinner. The accident occurred between Arroyito and Tránsito and left four dead, including three minors, and two teenagers hospitalized. The driver was charged with aggravated involuntary manslaughter and aggravated involuntary injury and remains at the disposal of the provincial justice system. The fatal victim was Ricardo Argentino Oliva, 33 years old, who was traveling with his children Thiago, Miqueas, and Liz, all from Arroyito. The impact was so severe that the deaths occurred instantly and the family vehicle was completely destroyed.Sosa no debía estar al volante porque el 15 de junio había sido sancionado por conducir alcoholizado sobre la misma Ruta 19.
He ignored a driving ban due to drunk driving
Sosa should not have been behind the wheel because on June 15 he had been sanctioned for driving under the influence on the same Route 19. During that checkpoint, conducted between Tránsito and Arroyito, he was found to have 0.49 grams of alcohol per liter of blood and was banned from driving. Although he paid the fine the next day, the restriction was still in effect at the time of the crash.
The young man ignored the ban and drove again without the required permit, which reveals a serious failure in the control system. The tragedy was preventable if enforcement of a sanction that was already formalized had been ensured. The lack of mechanisms to prevent repeat traffic offenses exposes the population to an unacceptable risk.
El siniestro ocurrió entre Arroyito y Tránsito y dejó cuatro muertos, entre ellos tres menores, y dos adolescentes internados.
A tragedy that could have been prevented
Road safety organizations are calling for stricter controls and a real monitoring policy for those with restrictions. They consider it unacceptable that a driver with a record continues to drive without impediments, as happened with Sosa. For these groups, prevention is only possible if the rules are enforced without exceptions.
The shock in the Arroyito community is deep and demands for justice from neighbors and family members are growing.Pain is mixed with outrage over an incident that was not an accident but the result of a chain of negligence. Meanwhile, the young man remains in custody and faces a criminal case with elements that aggravate his responsibility.
