The previous match between Boca Unidos and Defensores de Vilelas for Federal A was marked by strong controversy after an ex-combatant of the Falklands War denounced mistreatment by the referee of the match, César Ceballo.
The episode occurred during the tribute planned before the start of the match, in which the veterans were going to enter the playing field with the teams in a symbolic gesture. However, according to the complainant, the judge prevented the act from taking place as planned
.
"Our idea was to enter properly, not running, with the two teams together and the referees behind us. But unfortunately the referee disrespected us,” he said with obvious discomfort. “We had a big difference. I don't think he should have acted that way. He caught on with the players when the tribute had not yet been done,” he added
.
The ex-combatant also remarked that the situation generated tension at a time that should be one of memory and recognition. “We don't deserve something like that. It's a lack of nationality. We went to defend the homeland for all Argentines,” he said, adding: “The tribute is not just for us, it's for the 632 who were left in the Malvinas. We speak for those who cannot speak r”.
In addition, he reported that the referee had inappropriate attitudes with the players in the previous one, which aggravated the climate before the start of the match. So far, the arbitral body has not issued an official response
.
As for sports, the match was played normally at the Leoncio Benítez stadium and ended with a 4-2 victory for Defensores de Vilelas. Gonzalo Cañete was the figure with two goals, although the result was overshadowed by the controversy generated off the field
