The fire in Quebrada del Condorito has not been completely extinguished yet, despite the intense work on the ground and in the air

The fire in Quebrada del Condorito National Park Quebrada del Condorito, in Córdoba, remains active in a hard-to-reach area, according to authorities. Although 70% control has been achieved, the remaining hotspot requires an intense deployment of resources. Adverse weather conditions, with winds of up to 100 km/h (62 mph), complicate the task.
Durante el fin de semana, los vientos impidieron los vuelos de aviones hidrantes y helicópteros, lo que obligó a reforzar el combate desde tierra.
Ground and aerial efforts to contain the fire
Over the weekend, winds prevented water-bombing planes and helicopters from flying, which forced reinforcement of firefighting efforts on the ground. More than 200 firefighters and ETAC personnel worked on site to stop the fire's advance. With improved weather, the use of nine aircraft resumed, allowing brigades to be transported to inaccessible areas.
The incident is believed to have started on Friday due to a car accident, allegedly caused by a short circuit or another technical failure. The case is under judicial investigation, since it is a protected area under national jurisdiction. Schreiner emphasized that "it was truly an accident," although he called for extreme caution.
The fire spread rapidly and affected about 60 vehicles in a parking lot, 14 of which were completely destroyed. The flames advanced through dry vegetation, creating a significant fire front that was largely contained. The incident exposed the park's vulnerability to this type of event.
chreiner recalcó que “fue realmente un accidente”, aunque llamó a extremar la precaución.
Preventive closure and warnings for the population
Quebrada del Condorito National Park will remain closed for several days to prevent risks and facilitate remediation efforts. Authorities reported that about 12,000 hectares have been affected, with significant damage to native fauna and flora. This impact is being assessed with environmental area technicians.
Although the fire season has been less severe than in 2023, more than 7,000 hectares have already burned in the province. Schreiner highlighted that the risk remains extreme due to drought and high temperatures. "The season has been mild, but we can't let our guard down," the spokesperson warned.

Civic responsibility in the face of climate risk
The Risk Management Secretariat reiterated the total ban on the use of fire in unauthorized areas. Schreiner reminded that campfires, burning of waste, or any activity that could trigger fires must be avoided. "We have to learn this: fire is not a game," he emphasized.
Extinguishing efforts will continue throughout the week with support from federal forces, volunteer firefighters, and resources from the Provincial Fire Management Plan. Satellite monitoring and flyovers will continue until it is ensured that there are no flare-ups. Tourists are advised to respect closures and not enter the protected area.
