Given the injuries to Cavani, Merentiel, and Giménez, Xeneize is analyzing the chance to add the Uruguayan forward, who was already on River’s radar

Boca accelerated strongly in the transfer market with the arrivals of Ángel Romero and Santiago Ascacíbar, but it is not satisfied. In the final stretch of the transfer window, the club is still working to strengthen the squad with a clear objective:to fight for the Copa Libertadores, the great ambition of the season.
The recent injuries to Edinson Cavani, Miguel Merentiel, and Milton Giménez set off alarms in the Xeneize board, which is now fully focused on adding a forward. In that context, in the last few hours Matías Arezo, a Uruguayan forward who once was on Marcelo Gallardo's radar to bring him to River, was offered.
Arezo, 23 years old, has an active loan at Manya (his transfer rights belong to Gremio) until December 31, 2026 and has experience in European soccer after his spell at Granada in Spain.

For the moment, from Boca there has not been a formal response to the player's camp, since the Board of Directors is analyzing the feasibility of the operation. If it decides to move forward for the Uruguayan, Xeneize will have to free up a roster spot, which would imply parting with a player from the squad through a loan or a sale abroad once the local market has closed.
Meanwhile, as it decides whether it will go all in for Arezo or another name for the attack, Boca is still adjusting pieces at the close of the transfer window in search of a competitive squad that will allow it to go all out for the "Seventh".
Arezo's numbers at Peñarol
In his two spells at Carbonero, the Uruguayan forward played a total of 4,829 minutes, spread across 64 matches, in which he scored 34 goals and provided 8 assists. In terms of titles, he lifted a single trophy wearing the aurinegra jersey:the 2025 Copa Uruguay.
