River's president previewed the mega project that will include a new ring that would once again increase the capacity and the full roof in the stands
River is planning a new expansion of the Monumental stadium with the goal of turning it into one of the largest on the planet. Although it already has the greatest capacity in the country, the new administration led by Stéfano Di Carlo is seeking to take a new infrastructural leap that will bring the capacity up to 101,000 spectators.
In an interview with the Spanish newspaper El País, the club president confirmed that the expansion is part of the institution's immediate plans. One of our main objectives is "to continue with the infrastructure works that we have carried out in previous administrations", Di Carlo stated. He also revealed the new capacity and stated that "it will be one of the three most important in the world".
Meanwhile, the executive highlighted the club's direction and maintained that "River shows that with intelligence, focus, effort, work, and predictability we can grow to the level of the biggest teams in the world".

The project, whose investment is around 150 million dollars, would begin in May of this year andwould take between two and three years. The plan includes the construction of a new upper ring in the stands and the installation of a roof that will cover 100% of the stands, although not the field. The option of a dome was analyzed but discarded because of the negative impact that it could have on field maintenance.
To carry out the expansion and roofing, a new external structure made up of about 100 columns that will serve as support will be installed. Once that base is in place, work inside the stadium will move forward. The planning provides that the most invasive work will be carried out during breaks in the season so as not to affect the team's home games.
With this project, which has not yet been formally announced by the club, River aims to consolidate the Monumental as a global benchmark in sports infrastructure and to continue expanding its capacity without sacrificing competitiveness or operations.
