The Government of Javier Milei announced a projected private investment of USD 8 billion aimed at the development of clinical research in Argentina, during a meeting with the Minister of Health, Mario Lugones, and representatives of the Argentine Chamber of Medicinal Specialties (CAEMe).

The announcement was made during a meeting that included authorities from the main international laboratories present in the country, as part of an investment commitment that will unfold over the next six years.

Participating in the meeting were the president of CAEMe, Gastón Domingues Caetano, along with executives from leading companies in the sector: Carlos Annes (Merck & Co.), María Pía Orihuela (Roche), Silvana Kurkdjian (Bristol Myers Squibb), Francisco García (Novartis), Maximiliano Gutiérrez (GlaxoSmithKline), Carolina López Camelo (Sanofi), and Agustina Ruiz Villamil (Pfizer).

The agreement establishes that the laboratories associated with CAEMe will promote a USD 8 billion investment in clinical research, in an initiative aimed at strengthening local scientific development and consolidating Argentina as a relevant player in global health innovation.

As detailed, this activity already represents nearly 50% of the total private investment in research and development (R&D) from the Argentine business sector, with a dominant participation from CAEMe members, who contribute 95% of that total.

The dynamism of the sector is also reflected in current data: more than 50,000 patients are participating in around 1,000 clinical studies in the country. Additionally, in 2025 alone, ANMAT approved 290 new studies, representing an 8% increase compared to the previous year.

From the sector, it was highlighted that this growth opens new opportunities for health innovation to become a strategic driver of Argentine economic development, aligned with Milei's Government objective of enhancing the knowledge economy.

In this regard, the president of CAEMe, Gastón Domingues Caetano, emphasized the significance of the agreement: “This agreement is a milestone for health and science in Argentina. It not only promotes greater international-scale investments in science and health but also enables patients in our country to access cutting-edge treatments simultaneously with the most advanced countries in the world.”

The initiative aims not only to increase investment but also to expand access to innovative therapies, improve the quality of local research, and strengthen the Argentine scientific ecosystem in collaboration with global actors.

With this announcement, Milei's Government advances its strategy to attract large-scale private investments in key sectors, aiming to transform science and technology into pillars of sustained economic growth.
