The Government of Javier Milei is advancing an initiative aimed at improving competitiveness and boosting exports of national producers in international markets.

The Minister of Deregulation and State Transformation, Federico Sturzenegger, is working on a measure aimed at reducing shipping costs for goods exports through the implementation of a system widely used in other countries, but not yet developed in Argentina.

According to the official, in the coming weeks, regulatory changes will be announced that will allow national producers to sell their products abroad through the official postal system, an alternative that seeks to balance conditions against the growing access of Argentine consumers to international platforms.

During an interview with Economía de Quincho, Sturzenegger described the current limitations faced by local entrepreneurs when trying to export.

While consumers can purchase products from abroad through platforms like Shein and Temu, Argentine producers encounter logistical obstacles that significantly increase the costs of international sales operations.

Export Systems

In this regard, the minister explained that there are currently two main ways to send goods out of the country. On one hand, the courier system, which has high costs and is usually used for high-value products or specific situations. On the other, exporting via official mail, which in other countries operates under reciprocity agreements that eliminate destination costs.

“In the United States, you have the United States Postal Service, so when you send via official mail, the delivery in the United States is done by the United States Postal Service at no charge because it is a reciprocity contract, because if someone from the United States sends here, it will be distributed by the official mail without charging the United States Postal Service,” explained Sturzenegger, detailing how this system works internationally.

The official emphasized that this modality has not been utilized in Argentina, which represents a disadvantage for local producers.

In this context, he was emphatic in referring to the reasons behind this situation: “Why can't postal export be done? Because no one thought of it, this is a country that hates exports. That’s it, soon, in the coming days we will implement it.”

The minister's statements anticipate a reform aimed at simplifying export mechanisms and reducing operational barriers, in a scenario where international e-commerce is gaining more prominence.

With this initiative, Milei's Government seeks to create more favorable conditions for Argentine producers to access external markets more efficiently, leveraging tools already established in the rest of the world.
