One of them is Professor Marcelo Kohen, former Secretary-General of the Institut de Droit International and former ad hoc judge of the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea. Kohen also represented Argentina in the case of the frigate Libertad, when in 2012 the same body ordered the release of the vessel through a provisional measure.
The team is completed by Professor Nico Schrijver, former president of the Institut de Droit International and the International Law Association, recognized for his specialization in sovereignty over natural resources.
The Argentina will bring its claim for sovereignty over the Falkland Islands and the natural resources of its maritime spaces before the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea.
On November 10 and 11, a delegation from the Government of Javier Milei, led by the Legal and Technical Secretary of the Presidency, María Ibarzabal Murphy, will participate in the hearings taking place in Hamburg, Germany, against the United Kingdom.
The objective of the presentation is to obtain provisional measures requested by the Argentine government on October 13. The request aims to prevent the exploitation of hydrocarbons in the North Malvinas Basin, where Argentina questions the activities unilaterally authorized by the British authorities.

The Argentine delegation and the international legal team
The presentation before the Tribunal was jointly prepared by the legal teams of the Legal and Technical Secretariat, the Foreign Ministry, the Ministry of Economy, and the Procuration of the Treasury of the Nation.
In addition to representatives from national agencies, the defense will include three international specialists in Law and maritime disputes, selected for their expertise in the field.

The Argentine claim for the Falklands and its resources
The Hamburg hearing constitutes a new stage in the legal dispute between Argentina and the United Kingdom over the activities and the illegal exploitation of natural resources in the maritime spaces surrounding the Falkland Islands.
The Government seeks for the Tribunal to adopt measures that prevent the advancement of hydrocarbon exploitation in the North Malvinas Basin while the international procedure is underway. The presentation emphasizes the need to safeguard Argentine rights over the continental shelf and the resources found therein.
In this context, the Milei Government reaffirmed that it will continue to defend the natural resources of the Argentine Republic and its sovereign rights over the Falkland Islands, South Georgia, and South Sandwich Islands, as well as the surrounding maritime spaces.
Finally, the Argentine position also establishes that the country will not accept unilateral actions by the United Kingdom that undermine those rights.
