The Government confirmed that it will call for extraordinary sessions in the National Congress between December 10 and 31, with the goal of debating the 2026 Budget and advancing the structural reforms promoted by President Javier Milei. The decision was communicated by sources from the Office of the President, who do not rule out extending the session period to January and February, as has happened in the past two years.
The initiative seeks to take advantage of the legislative turnover and the parliamentary strengthening of La Libertad Avanza (LLA), which starting in December will have more than 100 allied seats in the Chamber of Deputies if allies are included, and 18 own senators in the Upper House. This new legislative scenario places the ruling party in a better position to negotiate with dialogue-oriented blocs and consolidate agreements that allow it to move forward with its economic and political agenda.
The 2026 Budget, the Government's priority
The central focus of the extraordinary sessions will be the approval of the 2026 Budget, a key step for the Executive after two consecutive years of extensions. With this project, the Government seeks to establish a clear roadmap for spending and financing, in line with the commitments made to the International Monetary Fund (IMF), the United States Treasury, and provincial governors.
"With that you can cover public works and certain transportation allocations, as well as some debts that the Nation currently owes to the provinces," explained a high-level source, who anticipated that the Budget will be the first sign of fiscal order and institutional predictability in the new stage of Milei's government.

Negotiations with the provinces and political dialogue
Chief of Cabinet Manuel Adorni will be responsible for coordinating meetings with governors to reach consensus on the details of the Budget. Minister of the Interior, Diego Santilli, Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies Martín Menem, and Undersecretary of Institutional Management Eduardo "Lule" Menem will also participate, under the direct supervision of Karina Milei, Secretary General of the Presidency.
