A tragedy struck the Yankelevich-Morena family and the Argentine entertainment world. Mila Yankelevich, the youngest daughter of Tomás Yankelevich and granddaughter of renowned producers Cris Morena and Gustavo Yankelevich, died this Monday after a boating collision in Miami Beach.

The girl, just 7 years old, was on board a school sailboat when, around 11:30 a.m. (local time), the vessel was struck by a barge in the Biscayne Bay area, off the coast of Miami Beach. The impact caused the sailboat to sink with its six occupants on board.

Journalist Rodrigo Lussich was the one who confirmed this devastating news that shook the entire country on the program Lape Club Social (América TV).

Two fatalities and an ongoing investigation

The group consisted of five children, between 7 and 13 years old, and an adult woman, identified as the nautical camp counselor. Two of the minors, both Argentine nationals, died. One of them was identified as Mila Yankelevich. The other victim was 13 years old.

The incident was confirmed by the Miami Yacht Club, which issued a statement on social media detailing that the accident involved participants from the Miami Youth Sailing Foundation. Four survivors —including the counselor— were rushed to the Yacht Club and two girls remain hospitalized in critical condition.

Florida authorities, including the Fish and Wildlife Commission and the Coast Guard, are working to clarify the causes of the accident.

The pain of a family marked by tragedy

Mila was the daughter of Tomás Yankelevich and Sofía Reca, and younger sister of Inti. She had turned 7 years old this past February 12. Her father is the brother of the late actress Romina Yan, whose death in 2010 also deeply moved the country.

The tragedy shocked the Argentine artistic community, especially because it involved a deeply beloved family from national television and entertainment. So far, neither the family nor their close friends have released statements.
