The highest-grossing movie of the year premieres on HBO Max, joining other titles from the DC Universe

Supermanlands on HBO Max next September 19, as confirmed by director and screenwriter James Gunn on his social media. The film grossed 615 million dollars worldwide, becoming the highest-grossing comic book movie of the year, according to Variety.
The film led the global box office for two weeks and added 125 million dollars just in its opening weekend in the United States. It was dethroned by Marvel with "The Fantastic Four: First Steps" at the end of July.

The DC Universe reboot
Directed by James Gunn, "Superman" marks the beginning of Warner Bros.' DC Universe reboot. The studio plans interconnected movies and series based on its iconic comic book characters, under the supervision of Gunn and producer Peter Safran.
This project replaces the former DC Extended Universe, which included titles such as "Man of Steel," "Wonder Woman," "Justice League," and "Black Adam," and became inactive after "Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom" (2023).
The cast and their characters
David Corenswet plays Superman, joined by Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane and Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor. Other characters include Nathan Fillion as Green Lantern, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, and Edi Gathegi as Mr. Terrific.
The cast is completed by Anthony Carrigan (Metamorpho), Wendell Pierce (Perry White), Skyler Gisondo (Jimmy Olsen), and Sara Sampaio (Eve Teschmacher). Also included are Pruitt Taylor Vince (Pa Kent), Neva Howell (Ma Kent), Bradley Cooper (Jor-El), and Alan Tudyk as Robot #4, later named Gary. Milly Alcock is Supergirl and John Cena returns as Peacemaker.
