International alert over Amalia's accident: Máxima Zorreguieta broke her silence

The princess fell off a horse and underwent emergency surgery; her mother reassured the world

Princess Amalia's health caused international alarm after an unexpected equestrian accident. The young heir to the throne of the Netherlands had to be urgently hospitalized after falling from her horse during a riding lesson, an activity she has practiced since childhood.

The fall caused her to suffer a fractured arm and, as a result, she was transferred to the  University Hospital of Utrecht to undergo surgery. The Royal House issued an official statement confirming the incident and announced that it will provide updates on the princess's progress.

Máxima Zorreguieta's immediate reaction

Queen Máxima learned of the accident while attending a conference on student well-being, "Mind Us," at Noordeinde Palace in The Hague.  Upon receiving the news, she immediately left the event and went to the hospital where her daughter was being treated.

Both she and King Willem suspended their official engagements to accompany Amalia during this time. The Royal House clarified that any changes to the institutional agenda will be communicated depending on the princess's recovery.

The concern was intense during the first hours, not only because of Amalia's physical health but also due to the possibility that the incident could affect her participation in upcoming official events.

Amalia's condition and her mother's message

Despite the initial impact, the princess made a favorable recovery and is out of danger. Máxima Zorreguieta, now more relieved, resumed her agenda and attended the Global Summit of the Consumer Goods Forum in Amsterdam.

There, she was approached by journalists who asked about her daughter's condition. The queen replied honestly:  "Yes, she is well. Now I don't know, of course, because I'm not with her, but she is well." She also thanked the press for their interest and emphasized that the accident did not have serious consequences.

The incident raised questions about Amalia's participation in the traditional biannual photo session that the royal family usually holds in the garden of Huis ten Bosch Palace. So far, it has not been confirmed whether she will be able to attend, but sources close to the family have assured that her condition is stable.

The connection between Amalia and her father

The princess inherited from her father, King Willem, a passion for equestrian sports. Both usually ride together when their schedules allow. In a 2023 podcast, the monarch shared his pride in seeing his daughter so involved with riding: "I find it wonderful to see that I have a daughter who also enjoys equestrian sports so much."

Thanks to her favorable recovery, the royal family was able to begin returning to a certain normalcy. Máxima Zorreguieta, with serenity and determination, made it clear that the episode has been overcome and that her daughter's health is no longer an urgent concern.
