A new alarm signal went off in the Middle East after Iranian authorities confirmed that explosions were recorded at the Parchin nuclear complex, one of the most sensitive facilities of the military and nuclear program of the Islamic Republic. The confirmation came through the Quds Force of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), which acknowledged having heard detonations in the area.
According to the official information, for the moment the exact origin and the precise point within the complex where the incident occurred could not be determined. The authorities assured that they are investigating what happened and promised to provide updates as the internal survey progresses.
A strategic site under permanent international scrutiny
The Parchin complex has historically been monitored by international organizations and Western intelligence services, due to its alleged connection with high-powered explosives tests and possible developments with military nuclear applications. For that reason, any incident in the area generates immediate concern both inside and outside Iran.
Preliminary reports released by journalists and analysts specialized in the region spoke of a "large-scale explosion" near the site. However, the accounts remain difficult to verify independently due to the information blackout and the restrictions on internet access that are currently in force in different areas of the country.
