President Javier Milei led on February 25 the official ceremony in tribute to the 248th anniversary of the birth of General José de San Martín, in a ceremony held in the square that bears his name, located in the Buenos Aires neighborhood of Retiro.
The event brought together national authorities and included the participation of the Grenadiers, in a commemoration that highlighted the historical legacy and the commitment to freedom embodied by the Liberator.
The head of state arrived accompanied by the band of the Regiment of Mounted Grenadiers and was joined by the Chief of Staff, Manuel Adorni, and the General Secretary of the Presidency, Karina Milei. During the ceremony, the President placed a floral offering at the foot of the monument to the national hero.
From the official Casa Rosada account, the Government underscored the deep meaning of the date and the historical dimension of San Martín's figure. “On this February 25 we commemorate the birth of General José de San Martín, the man who turned a vocation for service into a continental destiny and freedom into a non-negotiable cause”, they stated.

The commemoration was also accompanied by a message from the Ministry of Defense, where officials highlighted San Martín's lasting impact on national history and on the identity of the Armed Forces.
“On February 25 in Yapeyú, the man was born who would change our history forever: General José de San Martín. His life was an absolute commitment to freedom and to the Homeland, a conviction that transcended his time and that continues to guide the course of our Forces”, they stated.

They also highlighted the symbolic and permanent role of the Regiment of Grenadiers in preserving his memory and values. “Today, his Grenadiers honor him as he trained them, with discipline, values, and a sense of duty. Every two hours, from Casa Rosada to the Metropolitan Cathedral, they march to carry out the historic changing of the guard and to guard his mausoleum. It is not just a ceremony, it is the living continuity of his legacy”, they pointed out.
The message concluded with a reflection on the relevance of the national hero's legacy and its impact on the construction of the Nation. “San Martín created this Regiment to liberate America and forged in its men a code of honor that still remains intact. From the saber he wielded for Independence to every relief in front of his remains, his example reminds us that freedom is defended every day. He was born to change history. His legacy remains on guard, protecting the Homeland that he taught us to build”.
